Zip Line Canopy Tours FAQ Print

zipline-extreme-bridge

What to Know Before Going on Zip Line Canopy Tours

Get ready for the ultimate thrill! You must be able to climb two 65 foot towers a 100 ft tower and maybe a 150ft tower. Must have good balance capabilities and be able to walk on uneven terrain, have full range of motion in both of your upper and lower extremities and be able to control one’s speed of travel along the zip lines by resting your gloved hand on the pulley and cable systems if necessary. Must be able to understand verbal instructions and be able to pull yourself along cables  in case you lose momentum before reaching any said platform.
(Forest tour: we allow a minimum weight of 50lbs. All other tours: minimum weight of 90 lbs. Max weight for ladies is under 250 lbs and for the guys: under 285 lbs.). We will weigh our guests if we deem it necessary.

This is not recommended for those with moderate to severe heart and/or respiratory difficulties, recent surgeries,  any time beyond the first trimester pregnancies or those with moderate to severe musculo-skeletal problems. You must have full range of motion, use of both lower and upper extremities. This is considered a moderate to heavy physical workout!

Zip Line Adventures

Are the Zip Line Canopy Tours safe for my family or group?

Banning Mills was the first high speed zip line course in the southeast. We have years of experience and our guides are all CPR and First Responder and High Rescue trained. We meet all ACCT and PRCA guidelines. Our course is constantly checked and rechecked as well as inspected by an outside ACCT certified inspector. You will not find a safer or more experienced zip line canopy tour course in the USA!

What do I wear and or bring?

Zip Line Adventure

Dress considerations when taking a Zip Line Canopy Tour adventure

DO NOT wear sandals, flip flops, open toed shoes or shoes without a back! Do NOT wear shoes with the toes in them (Keene shoes and "five fingered" shoes are a no no).  If you do, you will NOT be allowed onto the tour and you will be charged for the tour even though you don’t go!!!

If you have long hair, wear it in a pony tail. Do not wear short shorts or shirts that are strapless. This is due to the gear that you will be putting on. And yes, you must wear a shirt, preferably with sleeves!

Make sure you have deep pockets or pocket with a zipper or Velcro type closure if you will be bringing keys, wallets or anything else you do not want to lose. If you do lose it at 200 ft, you will not get it back!

You can bring a camera. Just make sure it has a wrist or neck strap on it. Yes, you can wear a fanny pack or light weight back pack.

Photos:
We do allow guests to bring their own cameras to take photos. Please make sure you have a wrist strap or neck strap to secure to yourself. As an option: Our guides (not professional photographers) do take photos of each tour that goes out. Photos are of the whole group and all the photos are emailed to each person in the group who purchases them.
Prices of photos are:
Before going on the tour:   $7.00 per person for each person in the reservation. (ex: three guests in a reservation would be $21.00) and each would receive the photos.
After the tour:  $9.00 per person for each person in the reservation.
Please note: we do our best to get all photos back to the main lodge for our guests to see them. Sometimes, due to part of the group being far along down the gorge, the photos are not tramsmitted immediately. If you are not able to view the photos immediately, you can either wait and view them when they come in or take a chance on what you might receive or not purchase them. We do not charge a guest for photos until after they leave and they verify that they wish to receive the emailed photos. Once the photos are emailed, we will not be able to refund a guest for any part of the photo charge..

What time do I need to arrive at Banning Mills for my tour?

Zip Line Adventure

How early should you arrive before a Zip Line Canopy Tour begins?

Please arrive 30 minutes BEFORE your tour time.  If you are late, you will not be able to go out on your tour and you will be charged in full for each slot scheduled. We can’t delay the tour because you are late. This is not fair for our on time guests. We will not guarantee you a spot on any other tour either. Please plan your travel time wisely and remember any zone and time changes.

Why do you charge me if I have to cancel at the last minute?

Sky Trek Bridge Areal View

Zip Line Tour Cancellation charges

Please remember that we have held the slots for you, and this has kept others from being able to reserve spots while protecting your right to have a tour time. When guests have to cancel, it is difficult to rebook the slots. We have already scheduled our tree flight canopy tour guides to assist you on your tours.

What about bad weather?

Zip Line Adventures

Bad Weather Policy

We will go out in rain. If there are very heavy and prolonged rain storms, severe thunderstorms with lightening, severe cold or icing, Banning Mills will call each scheduled guest to cancel the tours. Please remember, if we do not call you, that means the tour is a go. Even if there is bad weather where you are, that does not necessarily mean there is bad weather at Banning Mills. Sometimes tours may be delayed for a short time for “pop ups”. Please keep this in mind when planning your day.

Historic Banning Mills Right of Refusal

Zip Line Adventures

Our staff is professionally trained and care about your safety very much.

Banning Mills reserves the right to refuse anyone access to the tours if we feel it would be unsafe for them, our other guests or our staff. Some examples of someone we might turn away would be a guest under the influence of drugs or alcohol, someone who is over the weight limits, someone that will not or can’t understand or obey the rules, and those who are  physically unable to do a zip line canopy tour. We do everything in our power to get guests out on a tour and give them safe access to our tours. However, Banning Mills and their staff will have the final say on any participant going out or continuing on a tour.

You will be required to sign a liability release form before going out on the tour. If you would like for us to email a copy to you, just call or email us your request. Minors must have a parent our guardian to sign this form. The minor must sign the waiver also. Again, we can email this form to you so that you can bring a signed copy with you. Just ask us!

Zip Line Safety Check"No Go" Charge
Sometimes, our guests decide that the course is a bit too much for them to attempt. Please understand that even though a guest decides to not go out on the course, they took up a slot for another paying guest. We understand that a guest that decides not to go on the tour or wants to come back after starting the tour feels they should not have to pay for a tour not completed. However, the charge is to cover scheduled guide expenses. We will only charge the guest the Level 1 tour if they are unable to do the tours. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Weather: We will not run tours in thunder storms, high winds, or "close in" lightening (3 miles). It is important to remember that foul weather in your area does not necessarily mean foul weather at Banning Mills. Please call first if you have concerns about the weather. We will call only if we are certain your tour will not run. In some cases, tours may be postponed to allow for some weather systems to pass. Sometimes tours might end up being on hold from 45 to 60 minutes due to weather pop ups. When you are planning a tour with us, please take this into consideration. If we do not call you, the tour is still " a go". If you do not show up, that will be considered a no show and the cancellation policy will kick in.

Pattern Tour Tree PlatformTimes: Please be at Banning Mills at least 30 minutes before your scheduled event. We do try to leave as promptly as possible and if you are very late, you may miss your tour time. We cannot guarantee you a place on the next tour. If you miss your tour time, there will be no refund given. Please understand that we DO NOT guarantee that you will go out promptly at your scheduled time.

We have no control over weather pop- ups or how any guest will react to the course. Some guests will take longer than others and so extend the estimated course time that they are out. Make sure you TAKE THIS into consideration as you plan your tour with us. Please be patient, especially with others in your group, because you are going to be glad you did!  ARE YOU READY?!!

All tour times are estimates. Times may be shorter or longer depending on number on the tour, physical abilities and fear factor. Tour times do include gear up and safety briefings as well as your zip lines and tree walks per tour chosen.
